What do they do in a Pregnancy Shiatsu Massage?

I'd like to share with you a video my shiatsu pregnancy teacher put together. It's a great way to see the techniques used in a pregnancy shiatsu massage to help bring ease and comfort to a pregnant mothers body. It also includes how we change the way we treat to make pregnancy massage safe for women with pelvic instability issues.

Whenever I watch this video (something I've done a lot recently as I'm refreshing my pregnancy massage training online) I feel so relaxed in my body and notice how much I am called to give pregnancy shiatsu massage and shhiatsu in general.

Pregnancy Shiatsu Massage is given on a futon on the floor with bolsters and cushions used to make the mother feel as comfy and relaxed as possible. Unlike a oil based table massage Shiatsu is performed with the woman wearing her clothing and covered with a blanket. This is because in Shiatsu, as well as working with the musculoskeletal system, we are also working with the changing energy patterns throughout pregnancy. It means the massage is different every time you have one.

In the first trimester for most women it is still safe and comfortable to lie on the back and tummy to receive treatment. As pregnancy progresses the massage is performed more with the client lying on their side and part of the treatment can also be done with the mother resting over a ball.

Whilst I could sit here and type out a long list of the things we do in a shiatsu pregnancy massage I think you'd get more understanding from watching my teachers video (until I get an opportunity to create my own….which will have to wait till my 2 little people are a bit older and I have more time).

To book a Pregnancy Shiatsu Massage please go to the Bookings and Contacts page and choose Initial Pregnancy Shiatsu. If you are 37 weeks or more please choose Birth Preparation Shiatsu.
